Terms of use
Effective 2026-09-14. These terms are between you and Mostaqeem (the developer) and cover the Mostaqeem app for iOS and Android and this website, mostaqeem.app.
1. Acceptance
By installing or using the app, or by using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app or the site. The privacy policy is part of these terms.
2. Licence to use the app
The developer grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own use, subject to these terms and to the rules of the store you obtained it from.
3. Prayer-time accuracy
Prayer times are calculated on your device from astronomical formulas, the location you chose, and the calculation method, madhab and high-latitude rule you selected. They are a calculation, not an observation. They can differ from the times announced by your mosque or published by a local authority by several minutes, for reasons that include the method chosen, the coordinates used, and local convention.
You are responsible for checking the times where it matters to you, in particular the start and end of fasting, and for choosing the method that matches your community. The developer does not warrant that any time shown is correct for your location or for any religious purpose.
Notifications and the adhan are scheduled by the operating system on your device and can be delayed, silenced or dropped by the system, by power-saving modes, by Focus or Do Not Disturb settings, or by the app not having been opened for some time. Do not rely on the app as your only reminder of a prayer.
4. Religious content
The Quran text is the Uthmani text of the Tanzil Project, included unmodified. Translations, tafsir and adhkar are cited to their sources in the app and on the credits page. The developer does not vouch for any translation or commentary beyond reproducing its source faithfully.
The app is a tool for calculation, reading and reminders. It is not a fatwa service and gives no religious rulings; questions of religious practice belong with a qualified scholar.
5. Third-party content and licences
The app includes works by others under their own licences, including the adhan recordings under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, the Amiri font under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, the Quran text and metadata from Tanzil under Tanzil's terms, translations and tafsir from the sources named, the tz-lookup data under CC0, and the Lucide flame icon under the ISC licence. Their attributions and licence links are on the credits page. Your use of those works is governed by their licences, not by these terms.
City search uses Open-Meteo's geocoding service and recitation downloads come from EveryAyah.com. Those services are provided by their operators under their own terms, and the developer does not control their availability.
6. No warranty
The app and the website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. The developer does not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components, or that any defect will be corrected.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or in connection with the app, the website or these terms, however caused, including a prayer or fast missed or mistimed in reliance on the app. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app, which for a free download is nothing.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that applies, the exclusions and limits above apply only as far as the law allows, and nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- extract, redistribute or sell the licensed third-party content in the app (the recordings, fonts, text, translations and tafsir) except as the content's own licence allows;
- send automated, bulk, abusive or deceptive submissions to the feedback endpoint, or use it for anything other than feedback about the app and the site;
- interfere with the website or the endpoint, or probe them for weaknesses beyond what the law permits for good-faith security research;
- use the app or the site in any way that breaks applicable law.
The feedback endpoint is rate-limited and submissions that break these rules are discarded.
9. Termination
You may end these terms at any time by uninstalling the app; because the app keeps everything on your device, uninstalling it removes everything it stored from the device. The developer may suspend or refuse service on the website or the feedback endpoint to anyone who breaks section 8. Sections 3, 4, 6, 7 and 11 survive termination.
10. Changes
The developer may revise these terms. The revised terms are posted on this page with a new effective date, and a material change is also noted in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the app or the site after the effective date is acceptance of the revised terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by writing to the developer first is subject to the courts of the United States.
